Lighting is often one of the most significant electric operating costs in a building, and these costs can often be reduced by conversion to one of the more efficient light sources. However, the selection of any one lamp alternative has to consider many factors other than simply reduced operating cost and energy economics.
Existing lighting can be reduced by lowering the overall lighting levels while providing task lighting in work areas. In addition, more efficient lighting sources may be substituted to produce the same light level at lower energy operating costs. Painting the walls, ceiling and equipment a lighter color will also help to lower required lighting levels.
